Mental Health, Infrastructure, & Training Project
New Orleans-area community members have experienced high levels of symptoms of depression and stress since the hurricanes of 2005. Through June 2009, many local and national nonprofit organizations will collaborate in the REACH NOLA Mental Health Infrastructure and Training (MHIT) program, a program that seeks to address depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in greater New Orleans by adding needed program staff and by supporting expert-led training programs to improve outreach, access, and quality of care.
In a series of trainings and follow-up activities over the course of the year, REACH NOLA MHIT partners will team-up to learn and to apply "collaborative care," a proven model that significantly improves quality of care and symptoms of depression and other mental health conditions, in part by helping staff and partners work together better as a team.
